When: 5-9 p.m. on Aug. 27
Where: Community Beer Works, 520 7th St., Buffalo
Cost: $1 per entry (plus coin drop)

This will be a “Best Game” format on 3 games: Mandalorian, Munsters, and Data East Jurassic Park.

To enter, you need to play each of the three games, at least once, between 5 and 9 p.m. However, you can play the games multiple times in an effort to increase your score on each machine, which will move you up in the rankings, as you outscore other opponents.

Top 6 in the standings at 9 p.m. will go on to the playoffs, with the top 2 qualifiers getting a bye straight to the finals. Playoffs will be players 3-6 playing one game on Mandalorian, with the top 2 from that group going to the finals, which will be one game on Mandalorian, vs the top 2 qualifiers from the qualifying round (5-9 p.m.)

FAQ

Q: How much money should I bring?
A: At least $6 ($3 for 3 entries, since there’s 3 machines, and then $3 to coin-up each machine). It’s highly recommended to get multiple entries though, in an effort to increase your chances of having a “good” score.

Q: I suck at pinball, should I play?
A: You don’t have to be good at pinball to have fun, look at Jay Fairbrother!

Q: Do I need to show up right at 5 p.m.?
A: No! As long as you get at least 3 entries in before 9pm, you’re good. But, the earlier you come, the more time you have to get in multiple entries.

Q: When will this end?
A: Qualifying stops at 9 p.m., at which time playoffs will begin. Playoffs should be done by 10 p.m.

Q: Will the diverter on Mandalorian break during the tournament?
A: Almost assuredly.

Q: Seriously, I’m scared of tournaments because I’m new, should I come?
A: Do you like pinball? Do you like meeting new people? Then, yes, why not? Playing in tournaments is a good way to get better. Plus, you’ll be a world ranked pinball player by playing!

Format: Format will be a 3 strikes tournament.

We will do either:

1) Groups of 4 will be assigned a random game each round, with the players finishing in 3rd and 4th place each receiving a strike. Once a player receives 3 strikes, they are eliminated from the tournament.

or

2) games will be one vs one instead of groups of four. This will be decided on the day of the event.

Limited to 32 players. Sign up in person the day of the event.

Top 3 players will be paid out if the field is 30 or less players. If it’s 30+ players, top 5 will be paid out.

Payouts for less than 30 players will be as follows:

1st = 50%
2nd = 30%
The highest finisher that is IFPA ranked between 5,000-99,999 (or unranked) = 20%

**Note: A fee of $1 per player will be deducted from the prize pool in order to pay the IFPA’s new fee structure for official tournaments**

Note: If a player that is ranked between 5,000-99,999 (or unranked) finishes 1st or 2nd, they will receive only 50% or 30%, depending on finish. They will not receive the 20% as well. The 20% prize will go to the next highest finisher in that ranking bracket that’s not in 1st or 2nd overall.

For 30 – 32 players:

1st = 40%
2nd = 30%
3rd = 20%
The highest finisher that is ranked between 5,000 – 99,999 (or unranked) = 10%

Note: If a player that is ranked between 5,000-99,999 (or unranked) finishes 1st, 2nd or 3rd, they will receive only 40%. 30% or 20%, depending on finish. They will not receive the 10% as well. The 10% prize will go to the next highest finisher in that ranking bracket that’s not in 1st, 2nd or 3rd overall.

This payoff structure is to encourage newer players and guarantee that at least one new player will be “in the money”.

Cost is $10 for players ranked better than 5,000 in the IFPA standings or $5 for all other players.
