Buffalo Pinball presents our first Critical Hit format pinball tournament! Designed by Karl DeAngelo, Critical Hit is a card-based, match play pinball tournament where players earn “spell cards” that grant them special powers. Some examples:
- Confusion – Change you group’s selected game to one of your choosing.
- Darkness – Play entire game with score displays covered.
- Forbiddance – Swap a specific player from your group with a random player from a different group.
When: July 15, 2017
Doors open at noon, tournament begins at 1 p.m.
Where: Corfu, NY (address will be sent to registered players)
To register: Send $20 via PayPal to buffalopinball@gmail.com. Send as “friends and family” and note that it is for registration for the Critical Hit tournament. If registering for more than one person, please send names of all registrants with payment. No refunds will be given after July 1. Registration is limited to 16 players.
Ten percent of registration fees will go to the house for game maintenance/repair, the rest will go to tournament prizes and trophies.
Tournament Format: Placed into random groups of 4 (sometimes 3) the bottom two players after each game will receive a strike. In the case of a 3 player group, only the 3rd place player will receive a strike. Games and positions will be selected via D20 roll with a Critical Hit earning both game and position selections. Only open games can be chosen, no waiting for games. Players are eliminated from the tournament once they receive 3 strikes.
Note: The standard “phase one” of a Critical Hit tournament will be skipped. Instead, cards will be dealt at random at the outset of the tournament. Players ranked in the top 3,000 in IFPA rank will receive three cards, players outside the top 3,000 will receive four.
The Buffalo Pinball League rules will be used for any necessary rulings.
